Governor's School of North Carolina The Governor's School of North Carolina is a 5½-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Students are selected to attend through a competitive process after being nominated by their public school unit or non-public school. Nominations for the 2021 Governor's School Nominations for the 2021 Governor's School from schools and school systems were due December 1. The 2021 Nomination Packet (see below) includes all overview information about Governor’s School. 2021 Nomination Packet April 19, 2021 - Summer Format Update; Decision Deadline Extended Lists of selected/nonselected students were provided to all official Governor's School Contacts in schools/school systems in early March. Also, an individual letter has been mailed to each selected/nonselected student's home. The summer program format announcement is still under development and will be posted to this webpage and sent to all Governor's School Contacts in the coming days. Please check this site regularly for updates. Details on tuition levels and need-based scholarship opportunities also will be posted here soon. Official Governor's School Contacts, on behalf of their school or school system, will electronically report to the Office of the North Carolina Governor's School about whether their selected students accept or decline their invitation to the summer session. Students/parents should share their selection decision with their Contact, not the state office. Due to recent delays, the deadline for Contacts to report is extended to Friday, May 7.
