Student Records and Communications
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction does not maintain transcripts or student records.
Who should I contact for a copy of my K-12 student records, diploma or transcript?
For information about current K-12 public school records, diplomas or transcripts please contact your school system directly. Please contact the school district if your school has been closed or consolidated.
Who should I contact for my High School Equivalency diploma or transcript?
For High School Equivalency transcripts, information, or diplomas, like the General Education Diploma (GED), please contact the North Carolina Community College System at their web site: https://www.nccommunitycolleges.edu/college-and-career-readiness/high-school-equivalency.
How does NCDPI Communicate with Parents and Guardians?
As the State Education Agency (SEA) for North Carolina, NCDPI communications to parents and guardians are distributed via administrative points of contact in Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and other Public School Units (PSUs). Parent and guardian contact information and related opt-out procedures are conducted via local systems. NCDPI no longer contacts parents and guardians directly. All such communications are handled via LEAs and other public school units.

To make a public records request, please fill out our Public Records Request Form.
