Student Information System Modernization
The previous Student Information System solution was implemented in 2012, after the former product experienced an acquisition and end-of-life. The Student Information System was last competitively bid in 1997, when SIMS was replaced with NCWise. A new Student Information System, while taking time to learn, should bring both efficiency and a new set of modern and powerful tools to the building, classroom, and home to help accelerate personalized learning. The intent is to issue a new RFP for the SIS in 2022 with implementation in the 2024-2025 school year.
On November 2, 2023, the North Carolina State Board of Education voted to award a new contract to Infinite Campus to modernize the North Carolina Student Information System (NCSIS).
The statewide implementation of the Infinite Campus Student Information System (SIS) was successfully completed on July 1, 2025. This marks a major milestone in North Carolina’s ongoing modernization efforts, providing all Public School Units with a unified, cloud-based platform to manage student data securely and efficiently. The transition enhances data accuracy, streamlines reporting, and supports improved collaboration across districts and charter schools.
