Superintendent Catherine Truitt and key leaders at the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) visit districts across North Carolina to listen and learn about various initiatives taking place in schools and throughout districts. These visits are a key way that the department gains insight from the field, while aligning each visit with the Superintendent’s Operation Polaris and the State Board of Education’s strategic vision.

The Department of Public Instruction’s District Visits and Voices team visited Kannapolis City Schools and Gaston County Schools in the southwest district in mid-October.
Wrapping up September, the Department of Public Instruction District Visits and Voices team traveled to Appalachian State University and Watauga County Schools. Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Truitt and her team met with the Appalachian Educators Club at Appalachian State University before continuing their visit west to Watauga County Schools.
Beginning their 2021-22 school year visits in September, the Department of Public Instruction District Visits and Voices team traveled to Haywood and Madison counties.
To begin the 2020-21 school year, Superintendent Catherine Truitt and her team traveled across the state to greet educators, students and their families during the first week of school.
Wrapping up summer visits, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Catherine Truitt and her staff traveled to Yancey, Henderson and Wayne counties to focus on strategies that prepare students for post-secondary success.
