A charter school’s performance is monitored and governed by the following: 

  • Performance Framework 
  • North Carolina Report Cards 
  • Legislation 
  • State Board Policy 

 

Performance: Performance Framework

The Performance Framework focuses on Goal II: Objective 8 of the strategic plan is to “increase the number of charter schools meeting or exceeding academic, operational, and financial goals.” The NC Charter School Performance Framework reflects each of the following key areas: 

  • Operational (OP) 
  • Governance (GOV) 
  • Financial (FIN) 
  • Academic (ACAD) 

The academic performance framework measures are academic indicators provided by the State Accountability and Reporting. Both the operational and financial performance measures are aligned with the charter school’s agreement, state, and federal policies. The Office of Charter School(s) collects each performance framework measure annually as a tool to track school growth and improvement over time.

 

Performance: North Carolina School Report Cards

The North Carolina’s School Report Cards is an annual publication that provides parents, students, and community stakeholders with academic performance of all public schools, including charters and alternative schools. These school–and state-level performance areas include, student performance and academic growth, school and student characteristics, and many other details. 

 

North Carolina’s School Report Cards is an interactive, snapshot of some of the important information about individual schools. The School and District Report Cards are divided into five areas: the School/District Profile; School Performance; School Indicators; School Environment; and Personnel. This user-friendly website addresses the need for quick reference on topics that are most important to parents and educators.

Article 14A. Charter Schools are legislative statutes which govern authorization and operation of charter schools in North Carolina. 

Performance: State Board of Education Policy

The State Board of Education Policy Manual addresses policies for charter schools. The manual can be found under the State Board of Education website. All charter school policies are listed under the category “CHTR.”
