Topics Related to Exceptional Children

This session provides a foundational overview of effectively planning, implementing, and supervising preschool special education programs. Participants will explore key components of a high-quality preschool exceptional children’s program, application of NC Policies, related SPP/APR Indicators, early childhood best practices, and strategies for ensuring strong program outcomes. Deeper discussion will include least restrictive environment planning as well as instructional considerations.

This two-day in-person workshop is intended for professionals working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participants will be provided with an overview of ASD and effective instructional practices that promote student engagement and independence in the educational environment. Particular attention will be given to the use of visual supports (schedules, activity systems, material design, and environmental design).

This Canvas course is an extension of the North Carolina Foundations of Early Learning and Development modules, with a focus on autism. It is recommended that participants go through those modules prior to this course.

In this self-paced course participants will increase their knowledge of the features and characteristics of autism spectrum disorder as a complex disability.
