Foundations of Communication is a course developed in an inter-disciplinary approach between consultants at DPI in the areas of Speech and Language Pathology, Autism and Significant Cognitive Disabilities. This two-day course is an in-depth dive into language development and strategies for providers to encourage and teach communication to students who are learning to communicate.

In this virtual professional development session, participants will discuss various myths surrounding MTSS. An overview of data-based individualization (DBI) will be provided, including application to a potential area addressed by OT and PT. Participants will also discuss readiness and implementation considerations, including integration and alignment of the OT/PT process with the MTSS Framework.

In this virtual professional learning session, participants will be provided an overview of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). Participants will discuss the evidence for occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) involvement. We will also explore current and potential contributions of OT and PT to the Six Critical Components of MTSS.

There are many things that interpreters do as “just part of the job” but is it documented appropriately? This training will review the IEP process and how interpreting as a related service should look like on an IEP and who / when they should have it added. 0.4 PS CEUs will be awarded.

Key use of vocabulary and appropriate use of fingerspelling are two areas on the EIPA that on average are scored low throughout the state. This workshop will focus and teach the didactic approach as it relates to educational interpreting while giving participants opportunity to use hands on experiences to practice. 0.6 PS CEUs will be awarded.

This institute is designed to provide strategies for supervising and supporting services for exceptional children and is most appropriate for district- and school-level administrators. Content will include authoritative sources for regulations, state statutes and policies, procedural priorities, dispute resolution strategies, and frameworks necessary to support evidence-based instruction.
