NCDPI Healthful Living Hub

Materials/Resources for the 2025-2026 implementation of the new Healthful Living Standards

The NC Healthful Living Hub is a repository for all Healthful Living stakeholders. The purpose of this hub is to provide a space for Healthful Living stakeholders to explore resources that will assist with planning, instruction, and professional learning designed to support effective standard-based teaching and learning. 

The Healthful Living team has designed this repository to provide a variety of resources for supporting school leaders, administrators, educators, and parents/caregivers. This hub houses the standards and recommended resources related to the implementation of the North Carolina Healthful Living K-12 Standard Course of Study. Healthful Living educators are encouraged to browse, reference, download, share, discuss, and adapt these resources.

Teaching the Standards: CPR Instruction Webinar 9/23/20

This webinar will provide tools and resources to support the implementation of Healthful Living Objectives for CPR during remote instruction. Participants will hear strategies for providing instruction virtually now with hands on demonstration upon returning to the classroom. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to share teaching strategies, successes and challenges with colleagues from across the state.

Guidance Essential Standards and Healthful Living Essential Standards contain numerous similarities, thus present great opportunities for school counselors and health education teachers to collaborate. Below you will find documents that crosswalk the two to help you identify those collaborative opportunities. Healthful Living Essential Standards are organized by grade levels whereas Guidance Essential Standards are organized developmentally based on student readiness rather than grade level placement beginning with RED and ending with Independent as follows:

This session is designed for Healthful Living educators who want to learn more about integrating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into their classrooms and standards-based curriculum. An overview of North Carolina’s SEL initiatives will be shared, including the work of the NC SEL Implementation Team and the Core SEL Practices. The new SEL Standards Mapping document for Healthful Living will be explored, along with other resources that can support implementation of SEL into any PK-12 learning environment.

North Carolina Safe Routes to School

  • Safe Routes to School is a national and international movement to enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school. SRTS programs are comprehensive efforts that look at ways to make walking and bicycling to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thus encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age. To start a program at your school, check out the handbook and other resources here.
