The State Board of Education will hold a special Every Student Succeeds Act planning and work session on Tuesday, May 2, with approximately 20 local school superintendents to ensure that the local district perspective is incorporated into North Carolina’s state accountability plan and to hear other concerns and ideas from schools and districts.
Board members and superintendents will focus on the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act law, especially the accountability and student testing requirements. A panel of superintendents Dr. Rodney Shotwell, Rockingham County; Dr. Robert Taylor, Bladen County; and Dr. Lory Morrow, Davidson County; and Mr. Ron Phipps, Cumberland County Assistant Superintendent for Evaluation and Testing will provide feedback to Board members as they develop North Carolina’s plan.
“Local educators have helped us shape North Carolina’s Every Student Succeeds Act plan from the very start of its development,” said State Board of Education Chairman Bill Cobey. “We want the full Board to hear directly from local education leaders as we work to complete our state plan for the 2017-18 school year.”
