This one-day workshop is intended for professionals working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the general education setting. Participants will be provided with an overview of the characteristics of ASD to support the planning and provision of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI). This two-day inter-disciplinary course is an in-depth dive into language development and strategies for providers to encourage and teach communication to students who are learning to communicate. In addition, participants will become familiar with augmentative and alternate communication teaching methodologies and explore the Extended Content Standards, which are aligned to the Standard Course of Study in North Carolina.
