Abbreviated Needs Assesment

"Focused insights. Prioritized action. Improved outcomes for every student."

The Abbreviated Needs Assessment (ANA) is a one-day, evidence-based review conducted by a team from the Office of District and School Support Services (ODSSS) to help districts and schools quickly identify strengths and prioritize one to three high-leverage areas for improvement. Through a focused yet thorough examination of data, classroom practices, stakeholder input, and leadership systems, the ANA centers on two critical drivers of student success—high-quality core/universal (Tier 1) instruction and instructional leadership. Schools and districts receive actionable feedback and recommendations that support strategic planning, continuous improvement, and stronger outcomes for all students.

Abbreviated Needs Assessment

Resources

Districts and schools that participate in an Abbreviated Needs Assessment (ANA) receive an overview of the entire ANA process during an orientation conducted by Diagnostics Services Instructional Review Coach (IRC). Leaders receive a copy of the Notes of Guidance which details the ANA process.

Schools complete a School Context and Profile form before the on-site assessment.  This provides an opportunity for the school to inform the review team of the school’s established systems, processes, and identified strengths and barriers.

Post-ANA Training Resources

After the ANA, Diagnostic Services and Regional Support staff provide immediate follow-up for districts and schools centered on the ANA report findings.  This includes unpacking the report and an opportunity for the districts and school leaders to work with regional support to craft specific action steps with ongoing progress monitoring to improve student outcomes.
