Materials/Resources for the 2025-2026 implementation of the new Healthful Living Standards
The NC Healthful Living Hub is a repository for all Healthful Living stakeholders. The purpose of this hub is to provide a space for Healthful Living stakeholders to explore resources that will assist with planning, instruction, and professional learning designed to support effective standard-based teaching and learning.
The Healthful Living team has designed this repository to provide a variety of resources for supporting school leaders, administrators, educators, and parents/caregivers. This hub houses the standards and recommended resources related to the implementation of the North Carolina Healthful Living K-12 Standard Course of Study. Healthful Living educators are encouraged to browse, reference, download, share, discuss, and adapt these resources.

Walking and Bicycle Safety
- A Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Skills Program for Healthy, Active Children is an all-in-one package of lesson plans, materials, activities and instructional videos that encourages children to learn about and practice fundamental skills that build safe habits.
North Carolina Safe Routes to School
- Safe Routes to School is a national and international movement to enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school. SRTS programs are comprehensive efforts that look at ways to make walking and bicycling to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thus encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age. To start a program at your school, check out the handbook and other resources here.
Please note that fitness testing is voluntary; however, if fitness testing is being conducted these guidelines adopted in 2011-2012 should be followed.
