NC Public Education Champions Network
You Believe in North Carolina Public Schools. So Do We.
More than 1.5 million students walk through the doors of North Carolina public schools every day. Behind them are parents, grandparents, neighbors, business owners, faith leaders, retirees, coaches and neighbors who know what those schools mean — not just to the children they nurture, but to the communities and futures they share.
If you are one of these people, we want you to know: your voice matters. And we are here to help you use it.
The NC Public Education Champions Network is a statewide community of people who believe in North Carolina public schools and are ready to say so — in their neighborhoods, on social media, in the press and in the halls of power. Champions are people from every walk of life who share one conviction: that strong public schools are the foundation of strong communities. Together, we are building the broadest, strongest coalition of public school advocates this state has ever seen.
What It Means to Be a Champion
Being a Champion for North Carolina public schools isn’t about writing a check. It’s about amplifying shared messages to educate others and transform the narrative around public education.
As a Champion, your role is to lift your voice — to share timely messaging, celebrate what is working, and make sure the people around you hear the truth about what North Carolina public schools are doing for students and families across our state.
Why North Carolina Public Schools Need You Now
North Carolina public schools are equipping students for success and delivering historic results. But too few people know about these achievements – like our students earning the state’s highest graduation rate in history, record Advanced Placement performance, and 382,964 Career & Technical Education credentials last school year. The narrative about public education is shaped by the loudest voices — and we need more voices that reflect the truth.
That is where you come in.
What Champions Do
Champions take action — in ways large and small, local and statewide. Here is what being part of this network looks like:
- Share the story. Post on social media. Write a letter to your local paper. Speak at a school board meeting, or talk to neighbors at the soccer field. When people hear good news about public schools from someone they trust, it changes minds.
- Lift up educators. Teachers and principals are doing extraordinary work. Champions recognize them, nominate them and celebrate them — publicly and loudly.
- Show up. Attend a school event. Volunteer for a car rider line. Invite a local official to visit a classroom with you. Support statewide campaigns that connect communities to their schools.
- Engage the public conversation. Learn how to talk to the media. Build your presence as a social media voice for public education. Join a community initiative or launch one of your own.
- Connect local to statewide. The strength of this network is that it links your pride in your local school to the larger story of what North Carolina public education is achieving across the state.
What You Will Receive as a Champion

- Webinars – with Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green and other NCDPI leaders, including opportunities to learn, ask questions and connect with Champions from across the state.
- Media training — guidance on pitching stories, using key messages in interviews,, writing op-eds, and connecting with journalists who cover education in your community.
- Social media influencer training and tools — ready-to-share content and guidance to help you amplify the story of North Carolina public schools.
- Ready-to-use materials — talking points, social media post packs, shareable graphics and messaging frameworks that make it easy to be an effective advocate no matter your experience or preferred communication platforms.
- Campaign-specific resources — materials tied to signature statewide initiatives like the 10 Million Book Challenge, Teacher and Principal of the Year celebrations and CTE credential attainment campaigns.
- Connection points — structured frameworks and opportunities to connect with other Champions in your region, school communicators, and statewide leaders working toward the same goal.
