Graduation season is when North Carolina's public schools come into their fullest light. From the small auditoriums to large arenas across our state, families are gathering to watch their graduate stride across a stage and into a future they have spent thirteen years building. There is no moment quite like it.

Dear North Carolina Families,

Over the past several days, students and educators across our state experienced disruptions accessing Canvas, an online learning platform used by schools throughout North Carolina and across the nation. I know this created real frustration and inconvenience for families trying to support learning, communicate with teachers and maintain normal routines during the school day and at home.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As your child's spring testing window approaches, I respectfully request your help.

Every year, North Carolina administers more than two million end of grade and end of course standardized tests across our public schools. The accuracy of these results matters.  They tell students and their families how student are doing, they help schools identify where students need more support, and they shape decisions made at the district, state, and federal level.
