Dear Parent or Guardian,
Thank you for entrusting your child to North Carolina public schools. That choice matters — and I want you to know that it is being honored every day by the educators, counselors and staff who serve your family.
I am writing with some additional extraordinary news. This year, North Carolina public school students are part of the most accomplished generation of public school students in our state's history. Together, they achieved four historic milestones:
(You can click on each badge to learn more about these accomplishments.)
Each of these achievements represents the highest result in the history of North Carolina public schools. All four arrived in the same school year. That has never happened before.
What does this mean for your family?
More students than ever are graduating. More students than ever are earning industry-recognized credentials that connect them directly to careers in healthcare, technology, construction, manufacturing and beyond. More students than ever are taking and demonstrating mastery of college-level material through Advanced Placement and similar exams. And now, for the first time, more than half of all NC public school graduates — 54 percent — successfully passed at least one college-level course while still in high school. That means more students are starting college with credits already earned, reducing both the cost and the time it takes to get a degree.
These accomplishments belong to your student. They belong to the teachers and school leaders who showed up for your family every day. And they belong to you.
We are proud of what NC public schools are achieving. And we are committed to continuing this work — so that every child, in every county, has access to the world-class education they deserve.
Thank you for being part of our public school community.
With gratitude,
Maurice "Mo" Green North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction
