OT/PT Practice Pals will be structured using High Leverage Practices (HLPs) for Students with Disabilities Pillars. A certificate of attendance (.1 CEU/1 contact hour) will be provided for every session except for networking! HLPs will be directly applied to best practices for school-based OT and PT. An overview of the session’s focus area will be provided, followed by breakout group discussions with OT and PT colleagues and a whole group debrief.

This virtual session is intended for OTPs new to NC school-based OT (less than ~3 years) including new graduates and OTPs transitioning from other settings or states. An overview will be provided of important resources and information pertaining to school-based OT in NC public schools. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in Q&A. Participants are encouraged to complete the Overview of School-based Practice for Related Service Providers (.5 CEUS/5 contact hours) course in NCEES prior to attending this session.

The purpose of this virtual event sponsored by NCDPI and NCOTA is to enhance OT practitioner (OTP) understanding of the differences and similarities between school-based and private practice OT, including scope of practice. Participants will discuss strategies to build relationships and empower collaboration between practice settings for information and engage in Q&A with participants for the first hour of the session. An optional 30-minute networking session with regional breakout rooms will follow to build relationships and further empower collaboration.

In 2024 the Office of Exceptional Children moved the data collection process for the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) and The DeafBlind Census through ECATS. This session will reflect on the process, information learned, impact for students and updates to enhance data collection.
