This two-day inter-disciplinary course is an in-depth dive into language development and strategies for providers to encourage and teach communication to students who are learning to communicate. In addition, participants will become familiar with augmentative and alternate communication teaching methodologies and explore the Extended Content Standards, which are aligned to the Standard Course of Study in North Carolina. Autism Support Team (AST) meetings are for those Public School Units (PSUs) who maintain an AST for the purpose of building capacity in effective implementation of services to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This meeting will focus on the critical components that are needed to pursue that goal. Participants will receive updates from the NCDPI Autism Team as well as time to network with other PSUs.

This workshop is intended for professionals working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participants will be provided with an overview of ASD and effective instructional practices that promote student engagement and independence in the educational environment, with particular attention to the use of visual supports (schedules, activity systems, material design, and environmental design). This is a rescheduled session from the original date of 10/15/24.This one-day workshop is intended for professionals working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the general education setting. Participants will be provided with an overview of the characteristics of ASD to support the planning and provision of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI). Invitation Only. The Autism Model Program Sites (AMPS) initiative is grounded in principles of implementation science. This webinar will serve as the foundation for teams to assess whether this initiative is a good fit for their PSU. Participants will be provided the context to engage in activities that support the beginning steps within this work, and a practice profile that operationalizes the initiative is introduced.
