Public Feedback Sought On Content Standards For 4th Level Mathematics Courses

Raleigh, NC

Parents, educators and all other community members are invited to provide feedback regarding proposed revisions to the content standards for 4th Level Mathematics Courses - The surveys will be available through May 4, 2019.

Per State Board of Education Policy- SCOS-012, the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) reviews the state's Standard Course of Study (SCOS) on a five-to-seven-year cycle to ensure the NCSCOS consists of clear, relevant standards and objectives.

The NCDPI is committed to a uniform and formalized process to guide the review and revision of the current standards by a committee of knowledgeable and experienced classroom teachers, instructional coaches and specialists, and NC university and community college professors. Additionally, an equally qualified team of educators, as well as, members of the business/industry community will serve as external reviewers throughout the revision process.

Upon completion, these revised standards will impact the development of courses that provide a solid foundation for college and career ready students. Thus, these courses are designed to prepare students for any entry level post-secondary mathematics course. They are equal in rigor and designed to meet different student pathways into post-secondary education. Recognizing this, the NCDPI welcomes the feedback and comments of all stakeholders. Multiple drafts will be presented; hence, we encourage you to participate in future surveys about the proposed revisions to the content standards for 4th Level Mathematics Courses.
