This training is designed for preschool assessment team members who are experienced in using TPBA2 for the assessment of young children and want to learn more about using TPBA2 in evaluating young children suspected of autism spectrum disorder. Participants will deepen their understanding of how autism-related characteristics may influence a play-based assessment and learn how to adapt their evaluation planning, information-gathering strategies, and facilitation techniques accordingly. Emphasis will be placed on collaborative assessment practices, with a particular focus on effective strategies for parent involvement, play facilitation, and parent facilitation during the TPBA2 process.
This session intentionally includes time for participants to network and collaborate with colleagues. Assessing young children suspected of having autism requires nuanced clinical judgment, interdisciplinary perspectives, and thoughtful problem-solving. This dedicated collaboration time will give participants space to talk through challenges, examine assumptions, and learn how others navigate complex assessment situations. By engaging with peers, participants will expand their assessment lens and leave better equipped to apply TPBA2 thoughtfully and responsively.
