A Positive Behavioral Supports Professional Learning Series for Educators Serving Young Children with Disabilities
This offering is a two half-day event (synchronous virtual) intended to equip participants with strategies to prevent and de-escalate dangerous behaviors in young children. Based on Oregon's Safety First model, NC First Response was adapted to align with state policies and Inclusive Practices series. Participants will gain an understanding of exclusionary discipline, the behavioral escalation cycle, and role of data collection/analysis. The session will include guidance on effectively responding to dangerous behavior by responding within three seconds, not reinforcing the behavior, and basing the response on the function of the behavior. NC First Response serves as a non-physical intervention tool, complementing, not replacing, social-emotional evidence-based practices.
*Prerequisite: Participants must complete Inclusive Practices: Social & Emotional Foundations for Early Learning - Preschool OR Kindergarten Module 1 prior to taking NC First Response.
Dates: November 4 & 5, 2025, 1:00pm - 4:00 pm each day
