Impacting Instructional Decisions for Students with Specific Learning Disabilities will dive deep into the knowledge and resources guiding the NC State Policy for Specific Learning Disabilities. This session will share foundational information after eligibility has been determined. It will include a review of: state data acknowledging achievement gaps among all students and students with specific learning disabilities, the implementation of specially designed instruction, how to collect progress monitoring data, and an analysis of student growth scenarios. It is recommended that attendees have completed the "Implementing an Instructional Model in the Evaluation and Identification of Specific Learning Disabilities" self-paced course located in NCEES (Course #18609) prior to participation to allow for deeper conversation and question generation. The State of SLD in NC will not cover the identification or eligibility process leading to determination of SLD. That content is contained in Course #18609.
While working through the three topics of specially designed instruction, progress monitoring and student growth, participants will have the opportunity to determine the relationships between student baseline performance, ambitious rates of improvement and IEP goals based on student data sets presented in various case studies. Participants will also be provided with resources to promote appropriate collaborative conversations about instruction and/or coaching to support the improvement of SDI for students with specific learning disabilities.
