The successive process of special education evaluations, including IDEA’s mandates, will be reviewed, grounded in principles connected to educational equity. High Leverage Practices for Students with Disabilities, specifically Collaboration and Assessment, will be introduced and connected to effective special education evaluation planning and implementation. Analysis of the information that leads to the referral will be discussed as the basis for sound evaluation planning. An organizational framework (ICEL/RIOT) will be presented as a model for synthesizing the multiple sources of data collected within the evaluation and applying these sources to eligibility and instructional planning decisions. Participants will apply ICEL/RIOT for a sample area of suspected disability and identify potential data sources which align with educational disability characteristics. IEP/evaluation team members directly involved in referral/evaluation meetings are encouraged to attend. A certificate of attendance for 5.5 contact hours will be provided. Registration will close for this session on February 3rd @5p.
