Beyond the Basics: Using TPBA2 for Assessment of Young Children with Suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder is designed for experienced TPBA2 team members, including school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, play facilitators, and parent facilitators. The session will focus specifically on the use of TPBA2 in the assessment of preschool-aged children who may be exhibiting characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Participants will deepen their understanding of how autism-related characteristics may influence a play-based assessment and learn how to adapt their evaluation planning, information-gathering strategies, and facilitation techniques accordingly. Emphasis will be placed on collaborative assessment practices, with a particular focus on effective strategies for parent involvement, play facilitation, and parent facilitation during the TPBA2 process.
The workshop will also address how to align assessment findings with special education eligibility criteria for autism, including guidance on documentation in ECATS. Interwoven throughout the session will be critical discussions on navigating complex team and family dynamics while engaging in respectful and empathetic conversations with families.
