Beyond the Basics: Using TPBA2 for Assessment of Young Children with Extensive Support Needs is designed for experienced TPBA2 team members, including school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, play facilitators, and parent facilitators. The session will extend participants’ expertise by focusing on the application of TPBA2 with preschool-aged children who present with extensive support needs including children with visual and hearing impairments, orthopedic impairments, significant cognitive delays, and significant communication delays.
The session will offer practical strategies for play and parent facilitation tailored to these populations, ensuring meaningful engagement during the assessment process. Participants will explore how information gathered through TPBA2 can be used to develop functional, individualized, and developmentally appropriate IEPs. The session will also include a review of the applicable eligibility criteria for special education, along with guidance on aligning assessment findings with these criteria. In addition, participants will be introduced to best practices for using the Extended Content Standards worksheet in the preschool setting.
