This professional development training will focus on the receptive and expressive vocabulary development of students with hearing loss of varying age ranges. This session will provide skills, strategies, and resources needed to teach vocabulary and word learning strategies to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Participants will be granted 6 hours (0.6 CEU Credits) for attending this in-person training.  This Session will take place in Burlington, NC

This course is a beginner level exploration of auditory development, vocabulary development, linguistic development, and the numerous strategies (AV strategies) used to enhance language development for students who are deaf or hard of hearing using listening and spoken language. The course has numerous opportunities for reflection and application of learning, and is moderated by a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist.

Foundations of Communication is a course developed in an inter-disciplinary approach between consultants at DPI in the areas of Speech and Language Pathology, Autism and Significant Cognitive Disabilities. This two-day course is an in-depth dive into language development and strategies for providers to encourage and teach communication to students who are learning to communicate.

In this virtual professional development session, participants will discuss various myths surrounding MTSS. An overview of data-based individualization (DBI) will be provided, including application to a potential area addressed by OT and PT. Participants will also discuss readiness and implementation considerations, including integration and alignment of the OT/PT process with the MTSS Framework.

In this virtual professional learning session, participants will be provided an overview of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). Participants will discuss the evidence for occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) involvement. We will also explore current and potential contributions of OT and PT to the Six Critical Components of MTSS.
