Promising Practices
The mission of the Promising Practices website is to promote practices that motivate, engage, and provide measurable results in North Carolina’s Public School Units. The Promising Practices Clearinghouse will support teachers, administrators, district personnel and any other education advocates seeking strategies that have been proven successful. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will research, compile, disseminate, and promote practices for educators with the goal of improving educational opportunities for all 1.5 million public school students in North Carolina. NCDPI has identified effective practices that improve student performance related to the following strands: Learning Recovery and Acceleration, Strengthening Literacy, Student Support Services, Reforming Accountability and Testing, Human Capital, and District and School Transformation.

| Lincoln County Schools | Farm to School | Growing and distributing local food for students is known as Farm to School, an approach that seeks to bridge community farming to the local schools. The relationship between the farmers and students is important in that it provides educators with the opportunity to inform students about healthy options that will nourish their bodies and fuel their minds for learning. School nutrition staff share information with students as they eat their breakfast and lunch at the school. Learning opportunities about the locally grown produce happen throughout the school through classroom activities and learning stations in the school entrance, hallways, etc. For many students, breakfast and lunch are times when students have access to their healthiest sources of foods throughout the day.
