Using TPBA2 for Assessment of Young Children with Extensive Support Needs is designed for experienced TPBA2 team members, including school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, play facilitators, and parent facilitators. This session explores how TPBA2 can be used to support meaningful, functional assessment of young children with extensive support needs, including children with complex sensory, motor, medical, and communication differences. Participants will examine how intentional planning of the environment, materials, team roles, and individualized supports can improve access, engagement, and the accuracy of assessment information. Through discussion, examples, and application activities, participants will strengthen their use of play facilitation and family facilitation practices to identify student strengths and needs, reduce the risk of misinterpreting behavior, and better understand how children communicate, learn, and participate. The session will also address the responsible use of TPBA2 information in IEP development and other high-stakes decisions, including kindergarten transition and consideration of the Extended Content Standards and alternate assessment.
