Itinerant services are an important consideration for EC Administrators in preschool continuum planning. According to the 2023 Policy Statement on Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Early Childhood Programs, "In determining placement options for a child with a disability who already participates in a regular public early childhood program...Part B of the IDEA presumes that the first placement option considered is the current public early childhood setting the child is attending, even if the LEA operates an equally inclusive early childhood program." Considerations for designing and implementing an effective itinerant model based on DEC Recommended Practices and research will be explored.

This session is offered in a synchronous virtual format.

Objectives

Participants will become familiar with:

  • how research and policy inform itinerant services.
  • how itinerant services support access to the full preschool continuum.
  • itinerant service models for EC preschool students.
  • resources to facilitate local implementation of an itinerant model.

Intended Audience

  • EC Administrators
  • Preschool EC Coordinators

Registration closes August 26, 2026
