The North Carolina State Board of Education is pleased with the announcement that Catty Moore will act as interim superintendent for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Ms. Moore will continue to serve on the State Board of Education while fulfilling this temporary role until Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools completes a search for a permanent superintendent.
Ms. Moore's dual service is authorized under North Carolina General Statute §115C-10, which expressly states that "[n]ot more than two public school employees paid from State or local funds may serve as appointive members of the State Board." Currently, no other State Board members are employed by public school systems, making Ms. Moore's appointment compliant with state law.
"We are pleased that Ms. Moore can provide her expertise to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools during this transitional period while continuing her valuable service to the State Board," said State Board Chair Eric Davis. "Her experience and leadership will benefit both the local district and our statewide education efforts."
Ms. Moore recognizes that her interim superintendent role may create potential conflicts of interest on certain matters before the State Board and has committed to recusing herself from discussions and votes as appropriate to maintain the integrity of both positions.
The State Board of Education continues its work with all members, including Ms. Moore, to advance educational excellence across North Carolina's public schools.
