Planning Year Sessions

Congratulations on receiving approval to open a new charter school!

Board members from charter schools that are opening in 2024, as well as acceleration applicants, are required to attend 5 Planning Year Sessions from September to January; all will be in person.  Schools in a delay year whose board members have attended all Planning Year sessions in a prior year (the majority of the BOD) are not required to attend this year, but are welcome to. Monthly check-ins will occur virtually from February to May 2024. If you are unsure of your BOD's attendance, please confirm with Dr. Natasha Norins as to whether they must attend. New BOD members must attend. The school leader and some of the board members are also required to attend the New Charter School Leaders Institute in June 2024.  If you have a new school leader and/or a new board member interested in attending any of the sessions, he or she must register to attend.

Note: Dates and topics are subject to change.  If needed, other trainings may be scheduled.  Site visits and/or board meeting observations may be scheduled during these months, as well.

Your commitment to the school's educational vision, making decisions in an objective manner, and the work you do to ensure a positive educational experience for students will directly influence children's futures and the future of our society. Attendance at the planning year sessions will help you reflect upon and implement all of the work necessary to meet this great responsibility.
